She is a native of Mumbai, India.She was born on May 15,1967.She was a top-line model in India before entering the Hindi film industry.Throughout the late 1980s and the 1990s, she dominated Hindi cinema, appearing in many hit films and proving to be one of the most successful superstars of the Indian film industry.Her nickname is Bubbly.She married an Indian American physician from Denver, Dr. Sriram Nene, in 1999. She has two children, a boy named Areen (born in 2003) and a baby boy born in March 2005.

Her first major role was in Tezaab (1988). She starred in the popular films Dil (1990), Beta (1992), and Khal Nayak (1993). Her best known role may be as Nisha in the super-hit Hum Aapke Hain Kaun!
