First Love of Radha Kishan : Love Story in Harvard
We've all seen Love Story, a true motion picture, so moving that you cannot help from shedding a tear. But the following series is no less than that - it's an amazing tearjerker! Love Story in Harvard is very much like its predecessor, only that it's set in the 21st century. The 16-episode romantic series was filmed in 2003 and broadcasted on SBS, the national television of South Korea between the 22nd of November 2004 and the 11th of January 2005. The English spoken by the actors was undoubtedly poorer than a native speaker's English, but nevertheless the mockery Love Story in Harvard had to undertake was unfounded.
Either way, the series were in no way close to the dreadfulness of many motion pictures of the '90s. South Koreans and people from all corners of Asia still miss seeing Kim Hyun Woo struggle to make things work between him and his love, Lee Soo In.
The series were shot at the University of Southern California and at UCLA, although it tells the story of two Harvard freshmen. As the plot unravels we are being told of two rival students at Harvard Law School, Kim Hyun Woo (played by Kim Rae-Won) and Hong Jung Min (Lee Jung-Jin) trying to come to grips with the huge amount of work demanded at Harvard. The latter has very good relations with their professor, Mr. John H. Keynes, who is by no means lenient, but Hyun Woo falls behind with his work and his future studies are endangered by this. The fact that they both like the same girl, Lee Soo In (Kim Tae Hae), a student at Harvard Medical School, is not helping them be friends either. Hyun Woo first saw her at a hotel and his first memory of her was eclipsed by some deceiving facts - Lee Soo In was in no way the prostitute he believed her to be. Eventually Hyun Woo succeeds with his studies, finishing his first year successfully and gaining respect from Mr. Keynes.
Lee Soo In finds out what Hyun Woo thinks of her by mistake and she tries to mislead him, by letting him think he's right. In the end, the both fall for each other. However, when Lee Soo is told that she has been accepted to work with a medical organization, things start to get bad. After a final night together Lee Soo breaks the news to Hyun Woo and they break up. Hyun Woo is left broken-hearted.
Later, we find that Hyun Woo graduated and went back to Korea. Although he supposedly has grown up, he remains a child in that he is still involved only in the kind of projects he likes. His rival, Jung Min decides to stay in America but he is sent back home to solve a case. By chance, they all meet again when Soo In has a break from her work to do some further research. Now we find out that for both Hyun Woo and Jung Min, Soo In has remained an old flame. Soo In goes back to her first lover and they promise that no matter how long it takes, they will be together.
Their happiness is short-lived again, as Soo In is severely ill. Hyun Woo hides the nature of her disease, in order to avoid making things worse. The two rivals, Jung Min and Hyun Woo meet again, this time as peers when trying to solve a case Soo In was involved in. The ending is somewhat open as all we are being told is that they start searching for a cure to Soo In's sickness, the T cell disease.
Day after day we have been waiting to see what is next on Love Story in Harvard and each of those 60 minutes was breathtaking. Although the ratings were not that good (19% in Korea and even less in the U.S.), this is truly a series of moving facts - a love story at its best!
This was a love story from a film. But I am a great fan of my own love story which you can find at the home page of this site. My love story is a true love story of mine which reflects true first love and gives clear idea what a true love is. The story tells what are the feelings of lovers when they are in such a state of love which happens for the first time in life. It exactly tells what must a person do when he is in such a state of love. I consider my love story as good as story of Romeo and Juliet.
