I think the basic reason is the situations ups and downs that come in most matches of it and the unprediction of the result till the last ball of the match. The game of cricket was started in Britain and then Ausies started to play it. And it started to gain popularity with time to time. And then this game came to the sub-continent. Here it gained popularity at a very fast rate and became the most loving game of the sub-continent in no time. Before the entrance of cricket in the sub-continent, hockey was the most famous game here. And both India and Pakistan had the good ranks in the world rankings. Actually the reason for the popularity of hockey was quite obvious that it is the national sports of the sub-continent. But if today anyone see the graph of the popularity of both hockey and cricket. One would not believe that hockey is the national game here. Actually cricket has entered the bloods of the people here. They are just crazy about it. Actually one of the main reasons for the great appreciation of this game is the advancements in it for last few years. These advancement are providing full entertainment to the cricket lover. In the beginning, cricket started as a five day game. It is called Test Match Cricket. This game has two innings for each side to bat and the result is declared at the end of fifth day's match. But this type of cricket didnot get much poularity. In the Test Matches there is no assurity that one of the team will definitely win the match. Infact, there is a big number of matches that result in a draw and this kind of result make the viewers angry. They think that they have wasted their five days of life just in the wish that either of the team will win this game but it ended in a draw. It is so ridiculous. After some time One day cricket was introduced by the cricket officials. The basic reason for these matches was to gain the interest of viewers. In this format of game each team has just one innings to play in limited fifty overs. And now you get the result of the day at the end of the day. So it made cricket more interesting and fast too. Batsmen started playing faster in this format. So viewers' interest also increased. Today, after noticing love and craze for cricket, the officials have now introduced another format which has made it even more interesting and faster. It is the Twenty20 format. It is gaining popularity but some people think it is a drawback to introduce Twenty20 cricket. Cricket these days is become a fever. Wherever you see you find people playing cricket in streets, grounds even on the roofs of houses. Cricket has become a passion for them. They donot see the time or weather. All they know is that they have to play it. They started seeing dreams to become Sachin, Dravid or Dhoni in the future. They started giving much time to cricket instead of their studies. They forget the fact that only eleven players are selected for the national cricket team. And the country has the population of millions. So it is not easy task to get in the national team. And even if anyone feels that he has got enough talent and he could be the future star of his national team, he should not quit his studies because still there is no security of getting yourself in the team. Because these days it is seen that selection of a player is not based on talent only. Moslty those players are able to grab a place in the team who have approach to the high authorities of the cricket. The persons having enormous talents fail to make a place in the team because they donot have any backing or any approach. So if a student makes cricket his passion and he sees his future only in this game. I think he has taken a wrong decsion. He should realise the truth which is very sore in taste. Mostly there are cases of students who imagine themselves as cricketers of future. They stop giving importance to their studies and the end result is that neither they become cricketers nor they have any degree. So they may have unsecure future and a burden for their parents. After that, they start feeling the sense of inferiority. They see their colleaques on jobs. and they are jobless. They now realize that they were at fault in neglecting their studies and the advices of their. But know it is too late. Similarly there are some people who love this game so much. But their love has developed into a bad habit. Now they bet on cricket matches. They have made it their bussiness. I think betting is a very bad thing. It leads to different clashes. I have seen many cases of deaths and casualties just because the persons bet big amount of money on cricket. But when loose the bet, they were unable to pay the required amount of the other party in time which resulted in big clash between them. Similarly there are some people who are too much passionate for this game in the subcontinent. They donot take it as a game. They really take it very seriously. There are many death cases are abserved especially in the matches between India and Pakistan. There are some people who are the patrient of heart and cannot see their team losing so when their team loses the match they cannot bear it and many people get Heart Attack and most of them die,just because of a match. Cricket love has some benefits too. It is a good exercise. It is a pure entertainment these days. It has become a proffession these days and cricketers earn much money through it. IT has got the fame. Today in Indo-Pak cricketers are liked and appreciated even more than the Film Actors. A poll was conducted in India to see the popularity of Actors and Cricketers. And you will be amazed to know that seventy percent people admire cricketers more than the actors. But I must say here whatever the benefits cricket has. But still it is a game and it should be treated only as a game. Anything more than that may cause you suffer. I often realize what is the difference between a love for a game and a true love story. Some people have love for cricket so much that they even forget the love for their partner. A true love story often tells that the lovers love each other deeply. But I know about a pair of true lovers. And the male lover is also so crazy about cricket that he forgets the love of her partner when cricket match comes. This is also quite true that people sometimes forget even true love in front of a love for a game like cricket.
